In this episode, Chris interviews Sir Douglas Flint, chair of Standard Life Aberdeen, IP Group and the Corporate board of Cancer Research UK, and a trustee of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. He was previously Group Chairman of HSBC Holdings and he has held other roles, notably as a non-executive director of BP. He is also chair of Just Finance Foundation (JFF), a UK charity established in 2016 to help bring about the Archbishop of Canterbury’s continuing vision of creating a fairer and more just financial system. JFF runs a programme of financial education in primary schools called Lifesavers, which is delivered in many areas by local credit unions. So his role at JFF has placed Sir Douglas in close proximity to credit unions.
Clearly, Sir Douglas has many years of experience of board rooms. So, Chris starts the interview by asking about being chair of JFF and what changes he would make to boardrooms to make them more effective?
