Description

This report by KPMG, commissioned by the Aviva Foundation and Fair4All Finance with support from the Swoboda Research Centre, explores how credit unions could help address the UK’s insurance protection gap. The research, based on surveys and interviews with 3,000 members and sector stakeholders, found that many financially vulnerable individuals – particularly community credit union members- lack adequate insurance. While credit union members generally trust their institutions and are open to buying insurance through them, key barriers remain: affordability, regulatory complexity, and operational capacity.

The report calls for pilot initiatives, capacity building, and regulatory clarity to support progress. With the right investment, partnerships, and leadership, credit unions could play a meaningful role in bridging the protection gap for their members.
