Credit unions in Ireland and Great Britain are seeing potentially harmful gambling behaviour in the financial activity of their members. In Britain, the adoption of open banking in the underwriting process has proved a revelation, providing much more information on the extent of gambling. Being locked down appears to have made the issue worse in British and Irish communities. How should credit unions respond – or should they?

At CFCFE’s online seminar on 24th November, Professor Sharon Collard of the University of Bristol will offer insights from her research on this issue and then there will be facilitated discussion between credit unions on what they are doing now and how they might develop their service in the future. The event is free for CFCFE members and just €25 for non-members. Tickets and more information here.
