Nick was delighted to attend the ABCUL East Midlands Forum meeting on 6th February in Leicester, to talk about research for credit unions.

Nick explained that CFCFE’s partner, the Research Unit for Financial Inclusion (RUFI) at Liverpool John Moores University, was launched in 1998 by CFCFE co-founder Paul. In that year, RUFI produced the seminal report ‘Towards sustainable credit union development‘ (exec summary available here), to which Ralph, CFCFE chair, also contributed.

Nick noted the many RUFI publications since, including the influential governance paper in 2017 (here), and the several papers produced by the Centre in its short life so far (se the Research page).

These East Midlands credit unions were very positive about the role of research in developing the sector, and gave Nick considerable food for thought on future topics. Many thanks to CFCFE member Clockwise Credit Union for their hospitality.
