The CFCFE-sponsored podcast, Talking Credit Unions with Chris Smith, is one year old! there are now 15 podcasts, on topics including diversity in the credit union boardroom, payroll deduction, and the impact of COVID-19 in Ireland and Britain. Chris, a veteran credit union volunteer, set up Talking Credit Unions in 2019 because he could see a gap in how people got to hear about interesting ideas and speakers in the movement. “There didn’t seem to be anyone talking about credit unions in this way,” says Chris, “but I talk about them all the time! As a director of a credit union, I have loads of questions I want to ask the leaders in our movement, and in this podcast series I get to do that.” The podcasts are generally around 20 minutes, short enough for people to listen to while commuting or on a lunch break, and usually feature Chris interviewing CEOs to get their insights on a prominent business issue for credit unions. Chris brings his many years of professional experience in public relations to ensure a high quality production.
Ralph Swoboda, chair of CFCFE, celebrates the anniversary, noting that, “CFCFE wanted to complement our reports and papers with other ways of communicating ideas and generating discussion among credit unions. And we’re delighted with the number, quality and range of podcasts that Chris has been able to produce.” Chris concludes, “this is a way in which I can indulge my passion for credit unions while helping the sector develop. It’s people helping people.”
