The Swoboda Research Centre’s mission is to produce, facilitate and stimulate action-orientated research that supports the credit union movement, primarily in Ireland and Great Britain.
Credit unions in Ireland are facing a demanding present and a very challenging future. Research that informs their response to risks and opportunities could be vital to their continued relevance and salience in Irish society. The Swoboda Centre is a direct conduit to practitioners, enabling transformation and positive change in the short, medium and long terms.
Currently there is not a visible, comprehensive overview of research taking place or required in the Irish credit union sector. The Swoboda Centre has taken the initiative to set up an event that will enable attending academics and other researchers from Ireland, Britain and beyond, including some leading names, to hear the priorities of credit unions, trade associations and stakeholders, and to share current research projects and future ideas and identify potential research collaborations. The focus is on research applicable to credit unions in Ireland.
The Credit Union Research Colloquium Ireland will take place online on 14th January, and a short note of the proceedings will be released afterwards. Further details and registration can be found here. Please note this event is aimed at academic researchers; credit union and other attendees are by invitation.
In due course, the Swoboda Centre plans to organise a similar event for Great Britain.
